ACHENSEE, AUSTRIA SKI HOLIDAYS

The stunning Achensee lake region offers 3 ski areas in Maurach, Achenkirch and Pertisau on the mountains surrounding the lake. In addition to the ski areas there are numerous cross-country skiing trails that run around the edge of the lake. Whilst there is little activity on Achensee in the winter it makes a wonderful backdrop to the ski areas and ski holiday resorts. Achensee is a very short transfer from Innsbruck airport and is ideally located on the German border for German airports.

ACHENSEE SKIING FOR FAMILIES AND BEGINNER SKIERS

In total the 3 Achensee ski areas at Maurach, Achenkirch and Pertisau offer a decent combined area although the skiing is neither tough enough for good skiers and snowboarders nor extensive enough for good intermediates. That said for families and beginners to the sport then the sunny aspect to the ski areas, the gentle terrain and the well equipped ski holiday resorts are all very much pluses. And for those who want views over lunch then Achensee is a great choice - the ski areas at Maurach, Achenkirch and Pertisau all offer superb views over the semi frozen lake. Little actually takes place on the water of Achensee during the winter but there are winter walking trails and endless cross-country skiing options on the banks of Achensee. The resorts of Maurach, Achenkirch and Pertisau are all very popular in summer and as a result are well equipped for visitors with leisure and tourist facilities in the resorts and the hotels.
