ALTENMARKT, AUSTRIA SKI HOLIDAYS

Altenmarkt im Pongau is the traditional regional town that serves the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee ski region, south of Salzburg and is part of the huge Ski Amade ski region. Altenmarkt is the home town of Atomic skis and has a great ski heritage. Altenmarkt is a regional town more than a resort and has great authenticity with impressive facilities and many locals living there. The skiing in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee is spilt between the valley skiing in Altenmarkt and the ski-in, ski-out resort skiing at Zauchensee.

SKIING IN ALTENMARKT & ZAUCHENSEE

Altenmarkt has its own ski area located on the edge of the town, on the road leading to Zauchensee. The Zauchensee ski area is a few km’s further up this same road. The skiing in Altenmarkt is handy, located on the edge of Altenmarkt and is ideal for families and beginners. The skiing is tree-lined and the atmosphere is very relaxed and family orientated. There are a few lifts and mountain huts and the terrain is generally suited to the beginner skier. Zauchensee is located further up this road out of Altenmarkt and offers far more skiable terrain, more variety and more challenging skiing and snowboarding. The local ski pass covers both mountains and both have their merits. Both the Altenmarkt and Zauchensee ski regions are part of the huge Ski Amade ski region as well as the smaller section of it, the Salzburger Sportwelt ski region. From Zauchensee it is possible to complete some great ski circuits into the region resorts. The town of Altenmarkt has many impressive facilities for the guest and a great pedestrianised centre – Altenmarkt is an authentic regional town rather than a resort.
