Located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, Mallnitz has its own ski area at the Ankogel as well as snow sure skiing at the Molltaler Glacier.
With the famous ski holiday resort of Bad Gastein as its neighbour, Mallnitz is relatively undiscovered outside of Austria, Germany and Italy. It lies at the end of the Tauern Tunnel that links it to Bad Gastein and the resorts south of Salzburg. There are dramatic peaks all around Mallnitz and there is an option of skiing on the local Ankogel ski area, or the regional centre for glacier skiing, the Molltaler Glacier that is located close by. Mallnitz is a pretty and rugged resort, dominated by high peaks and rivers the run through the village.
