The market town of Altenmarkt and the nearby alpine village of Zauchensee are located only 65 km from Salzburg and are part of the Salzburger Sportwelt ski region – the massive ski area that extends to the south of Slazburg. The town of Altenmarkt is an attractive market town, whilst the alpine village of Zauchensee forms the base of the ski area. The skiing is accessed from Zauchensee which is fairly snow-sure at 1350m. Unusually for a ski area, whilst the intermediate skier has terrain to enjoy, the majority of the pistes favour both advanced, (with FIS rated pistes) and beginner skiers; perfect for couples with abilities at opposite ends of the spectrum! The area is also part of the Ski Amade area, boasting 865km of pistes and over 270 lifts.
