With a magnificent lakeside location and towering mountains all round, the ski holiday resort of Zell am See is one of the most attractive to be found.
In summer the lake and its activities dominate the holiday resort and in winter whilst the lake is a secondary feature, it still provides great scenic value and allows visitors access to a wonderful natural ice rink. The ski resort of Zell am See directly accessing a ski area from the resort, however Zell am See is in truth the sum of the local ski resources that includes Kaprun and the glacier there – forming what is known as the Europa Sportregion. The ski area at Zell am See offers tree lined skiing best suited to beginners and intermediates although there are several black pistes. The views from the peak at Schmitten Pfiff are spectacular, overlooking the lake, with the glaciers toward the Grossglockner in the distance. The neighbouring ski holiday resort of Kaprun is linked by free ski bus. The ski area at Kaprun consists of a smallish area accessed from the village via the Maiskogelbahn and the much larger glacier of the Kitzsteinhorn which is accessed form just outside Kaprun. The glacier provides year round skiing and a snow guarantee in early or late season. The holiday resort of Zell am See offers lively après ski with a mix of nationalities.
