The ski resort of Finkenberg in the Tirolean Zillertal valley is known best as a neighbour of Mayrhofen.

The resort benefits from the proximity to Mayrhofen and the linked ski terrain but is significantly different away from the ski slopes. The resort is small, attractive and after dark the pace is sedate, in stark contrast to the action to be found in Mayrhofen. The Penken ski area is shared with Mayrhofen but is crucially accessed from a lift that is less prone to crowding and offers a ski route back to the village; two aspects that are missing in Mayrhofen. Further up the valley the Hintertux glacier offers year round skiing and snow reliability and is linked by shuttle bus, as is Mayrhofen. In total the Zillertal Ski Area, of which Finkenberg is a part, has over 400km of piste offering terrain to suit all levels / abilities.
