Glacier skiing on the Hintertux Glacier

The Hintertux Glacier offers year round skiing and a snow guarantee for those staying in the Ziller Valley.

Located at the upper reaches of the Ziller Valley, the ski area on the Hintertux Glacier offers complete snow reliability and a surprisingly varied and challenging ski terrain. As with all glaciers however, there is ample gentle terrain due to the natural gradient that glaciers tend to take as they carve down to the valley floor. The Hintertux glacier is one of five main glacier ski areas in Austria, offering year round skiing and guaranteed snow at the beginning and end of the traditional ski seasons. With a top altitude of over 3200m the views across Austria and into Italy are truly spectacular. Hintertux is the closest alpine village to the glacier whilst the villages of Lanersbach, Madseit and Juns are close to both the glacier and the nearby ski area of Eggalm. Slightly further back down the valley are the impressive resorts of Finkenberg and Mayrhofen with access to the extensive and fantastic terrain of the Penken ski area. Together the Hintertux Glacier and the surrounding resorts comprise the Zillertal 3000 ski area.
