Skiing in the compact, family ski holiday resort of Mutters, one of the ski holiday villages dotted around Innsbruck.
Mutters has seen much needed investment since 2005 and continues to add new lifts and snow making capacity, as it edges toward a link-up with the neighbouring ski holiday region of Axamer Lizum.
With new investment in a gondola and new chairlift for the 2005 winter season, Mutters has begun an investment drive after years of it being the favoured ski touring location of Innsbruck residents. A new and impressive restaurant followed in the winter of 2006 and snow making has been installed all the way down to the base station. Plans are afoot to link the ski area at Mutters with Goetzens and eventauly the neighbouring ski area of Axamer Lizum. Skiing in Mutters takes place around the top gondola station and there are a great number of local kids on the ski pistes. The atmosphere is relaxed and the ski pistes tend to be gentle.
A free ski bus runs between Mutters and Axamer Lizum for those skiers wanting to experience a bigger and more demanding ski area. Most of the season it is possible to ski back from Axamer Lzum, right down into Mutters on a varied, interesting and very scenic ski route. The ski holiday village of Mutters is impressively attractive and is an authentic farming village perched on a plateau above Innsbruck and linked to the city by road and a mountain tram.
