The exclusive ski holiday resort of Lech am Arlberg in the offers a superb village and fantastic skiing in a vast skiing area, including heli-skiing.
Lech am Arlberg is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive and impressive ski holiday resorts in Austria. The ski holiday resort is about as charming as any in the Alps and the surroundings are magnificent. Much of the accommodation has good access to the slopes and the skiing, whilst the satellite resort of Oberlech is totally ski-in, ski-out. In the heart of the Arlberg ski region, Lech am Arlberg has one of the best snow records in the whole of Austria and although much of the on-piste skiing in Lech is best suited to intermediates, the only heli-skiing operation in Austria is based in neighbouring Zurs. Zurs am Arlberg is lift linked with Lech am Arlberg and offers further great snow conditions and skiing.
Skiing in the ski holiday resort of Lech am Arlberg
The skiing and snowboarding in Lech am Arlberg is best suited to intermediates and together with the neighbouring and lift/ski piste linked Zurs am Arlberg, the area is an impressive size. The snow record in the Arlberg region is one of the best in Austria, if not Europe and whilst the better skiers and snowboarders will find only a limited amount of tough piste skiing, the off-piste skiing is legendary. Off-piste is also complemented in Lech am Arlberg by a heli-skiing operation. The combined Lech – Zurs ski area is linked by a route known as the White Ring and although only possible in one direction, the Lech – Zurs White Ring is an impressive route that runs from Lech into Zurs and onto Zug before returning to Lech.
The resort of Lech am Arlberg
The ski holiday resort of Lech am Arlberg is one of the most charming and immaculate resorts in the entire Alps. Expansion in response to the popularity of skiing in Lech has done little to diminish the authentic charm of the Lech. Lech is entirely low rise and accommodation dots the mountainside. With a river flowing through the centre, walking paths and a dominant church, Lech am Arlberg really is a stunning resort. Prices can be above the Austrian average (but some way below the best French and Swiss resorts) for accommodation / entertainment. Whilst Lech is about the most exclusive ski holiday resort in Austria, it lacks the stuffiness of some other European resorts. Traffic is a significant and unnecessary downside in the resort.
Apres ski in Lech am Arlberg
The après ski in Lech am Arlberg is refined and lacks the vibrancy of St Anton am Arlberg. Fine wine is the choice for many and the slope-side bars are quick to empty in the early evening. Oberlech has numerous slope-side terraces and deck chaired piste areas but on the whole the clientele enjoy a relaxed and jolly couple of hours of après ski before hotel based dining.
For families then Lech am Arlberg is a pretty good option. The skiing is generally pretty gentle and much of the accommodation is well located for the lifts and the ski pistes. The heavy local traffic is one of the downsides for family holidays in Lech am Arlberg.
