The Ski Welt is set to open this winter on the 4th December with a provisional earlier opening should the conditions be right. The farmers over here are predicting a cold winter so fingers crossed. Soll, Brixen, Westendorf and Ellmau as well as the other ski holiday resorts in the Ski Welt region are covered on the mighty Tirol Snow Card so if you are planning multiple visits over here this winter it might be worth considering. Alternatively buy it and then work out the other things such as accommodation, time off work etc. no new snow forecast for the coming days at lower elevations but the glaciers should see some additional snow over the coming days. The Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers at Solden are already open as is the Hintertux Glacier whilst the Stubai Glacier opens for the winter tomorrow.

Late February, looking back toward Brixen and the main section of the Ski Welt Wilder Kaiser region from Westendorf on the best day in the region that I have ever encountered. There was tons of new snow and the clouds had a real symmetry to them especially viewed from the new top station of the Choralmbahn gondola.

Anyone having skied the Ski Welt Wilder Kaiser this season will have seen some new and impressive ski infrastructure. Yesterday was my first ski in the Ski Welt Wilder Kaiser region this winter and the link into Westendorf has brought great benefits to users on either side of the Brixen – Westendorf link. The Choralmbahn 8-seater gondola now links the Ski Welt via a gondola hub in Brixen. Gone are the days of the ski bus link that frustratingly left you stranded for some time during the afternoon. The run down from the Choralm is a great run which winds its way down to Brixen away from the main Westendorf ski area.

Another welcome addition is the second gondola onto the Hohe Salve peak. The Salvenbahn II 8-seater gondola runs from mid-station at the Hopfgarten. Whilst this is not news to anyone who has skied there this season, it is to me. The snow pack yesterday was huge, the most I have ever seen in the Ski Welt Wilder Kaiser.
