Yes I think I was driving the day you got the powder, there was so much in the Arlberg it was incredible. I was stuck in traffic jams with 4 wheel drive Audi and BMW cars strewn on the autobahn - luckily the Renault and its new winter tyres just ploughed through it all.

Just to clarify Innsbruck and Davos are some 3 hours apart so they are not ideally twin resorts to commute between, that would be an early start for sure.

Yes Davos was in great shape with cold sunny days and plenty of fresh snow. The apres ski was rather different to Austria and was certainly not encouraged by our hotel bar staff. The staff even claimed the first night at 0200 that they did not have a karaoke microphone. So what followed was ‘Donald, Where's Yer Troosers?’ unplugged. Good times for most.

The skiing areas are organized very good, offering all sorts of transportation and many valleys connect to each other. There is not a rare chance that you start skiing in one valley in the morning an end up in a total different one at the end of the day. Some areas offer so many lifts and tracks, taht even after a week you have not seen them all. Another very important fact is the snowboarding friendly enviroment, allowing boarders the use all lifts and tracks. Many areas are host for big international skiing and snowboarding competitions and Innsbruck is even considered the "snoboarding captial" of Europe.

Davos, great resort, very modern. Language is strange in Switzerland as half speak French & the the other half some sort of German, lack of national identity i guess? still they do have good skiing resorts , but the night life is nothing on Austria. I see Kitzbuhel has a dusting of snow last night, may it long continue until April at least.

Hi Nicola - glad the Speedos didn’t put you off reading the article! Yes snow is set to arrive anytime now although it is not here yet. Powder should be here from tomorrow onwards and if you want to ski the Innsbruck region I would aim for 2 areas over the coming weekend - Axamer Lizum and Nordpark:

http://www.skiingaustria.co.uk/axamer-lizum.html
http://www.skiingaustria.co.uk/innsbruck-nordpark.html

Both have great skiing, Innsbruck Nordpark has superb steep skiing and Axamer Lizum has tons of off-piste. The problem with Innsbruck Nordpark is that the locals favour this place on powder days so it gets tracked out quickly. Axamer Lizum offers better tree cover and more north facing slopes so the powder lasts longer and there is often powder on offer days after a snowfall. For the latest snow report as it comes down the just drop a few lines on the blog and we would be happy to let you know the current state of play. I will be in Davos on Saturday but just stop someone in the street or bar in Innsbruck and ask for a powder report and I am sure they will know. Enjoy Mayrhofen as well and if you get chance head over to the Zillertal Arena - it has the best skiing in the Zillertal Valley - trust me!

I had assumed a high degree of wisdom from your past blog comments and had hoped you could shed some light on the speedo status in Australasia. I had also heard that the French were trying to outlaw the wearing of surf shorts in public baths and by chance or design resurrect the fortunes of this aquatic fashion icon. They have done much the same with the one-piece ski suit which seems a right of passage for even the smallest French skiers. Tragic.
