Heavy snow falling in Innsbruck
So after a few very cold and very clear weeks here in Austria the skies have clouded over and heavy snow is falling across the Tirol. The snow started around 7 this morning and by 10:00 there was good powder skiing, with about 20cm of powder on offer in Axamer Lizum and very few crowds. The visibility was not the best but with the tree cover in Axamer Lizum, there was plenty of good terrain to explore. Snow is set to continue for the entire week and the Hahnenkamm downhill race that is scheduled for Saturday has already become the first casualty of the heavy snow with the first practice for the downhill race cancelled today. The practice has been re-scheduled for tomorrow although the weather charts suggest a good deal of snow is due then and on the following days. The snow is great for powder skiing but a disaster for the race preparations. Check out the latest snow report from today at Axamer Lizum, high above Innsbruck:
