Moreboards – Stubai Zoo Opening on the Stubai Glacier – a complete success

On Friday the Moreboards – Stubai Zoo Opening started with a Warm-Up Party at the Dorfpub in Neustift. Against Matt’s concern I went to the Stubai Glacier on Saturday morning – we arrived at the parking at 9:30 and had to park already at Platform D. Same at the station, a big crowd of all chilled boarders and skiers in front of the ticketing. We went up and the sky began to clear. We had a great weather and the temperature was perfect for an event like that, because we were standing a lot of time to watch the a) great jumps in the newly build park and b) all the new equipment which was presented there (unfortunately I was there with my skis and as they only showed Snowboard equipment I couldn’t test anything). But not only were the weather as well the snow conditions really amazing. The park offers a lot of kickers and rails – 2 big kickers and a couple of smaller ones. The park was crowded but it was no trouble as (nearly) only very good snowboarders and skiers were around and showing their tricks in the park. There was a small contest as well, but it was a bit hard to follow as so many guys were “jumping around”. We saw the final run from the chill-out area at the end of the park. We had some nice sound from a DJ, a cold beer and burger there.

In the evening there was a big party at the Freizeitzentrum in Neustift. I never saw the Freizeitzentrum that full (and believe me I have been there a lot of times J  The programme was very cool – 2 Hip hop Bands played, a good DJ, cool drinks and not to forget: Pool Party. All in all I can say it was a complete success and hopefully the premier will not stay a premier.

The reason Kathy went to this and matt decided not is because he is far too old to mix with the cool snowboard crowd and certainly too old to appreciate Hip Hop bands!! ( unless you include Flos drunk rapping!)

Oi! Chaka Khan did a bit of rapping. Anyway I tried for the baggy look but the summer months have meant I now fill the baggy stuff. I would need to ski with the Millennium Dome as my suit to get the baggy look in October 2009.

haha…the best was a lift guy I know…a complete rocker and very local attitude who was so relieved when he saw my friends and me at the lift “finally some normal people, all this crazy checkers” haha…but anyway it was really cool and chilled!

I have always wondered what it must be like to be a liftie – when I lived in Whilster-Blackcomb my drinking buddy was a liftie, very polite and practical but the worst snowboarder I have seen and very often stinking like meths at the time of the first lift. At times I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be with all those smiling faces passing by, I guess the flip side is in blizzard conditions with a heater on and Austrian volksmusik blaring out of the radio. With views to die for and not too much in the way of tough commutes then the job certainly has a good deal going for it.
