Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis in great conditions with many there to enjoy them

Great conditions in a sun chair or on the snow in Serfaus - image © www.skiingaustria.co.uk
Really great skiing today in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area. There were plenty of people on the slopes in what is probably the busiest week of the year in Austria and conditions were superb. Blue skies and apart from the top sections of the ski area at over 2700m where the wind was strong and bitingly cold then the weather and snow conditions were excellent. Skiing into Serfaus from Ladis I always forget how many valleys there are to reach the margins of the ski area. Although it wasn’t really a powder day today there were endless visible tracks, the last few days would have given some great powder skiing. Today’s snow report was beset by sound problems, the strong wind put paid to the dialogue so instead we have a short video from the skiing today on Serfaus:

snow looks fantastic in that basin, must be quite sheltered in there?
The area is one of the most interesting you will find with valley after valley to ski into and out of. That day the wind was really blowing but still offered great skiing. The deckchairs offer a great place to enjoy the view and a tipple or two.
I have never been to Serfaus but I have heard it is more a family resort? Since I don’t have a family yet I was wondering whether there are any good apres ski places in serfaus.
Hey Bard, yes it is a family resort and very upmarket but the skiing is some of the very best. Fiss maybe has a little more apres ski but you go to this region for great skiing and quality resort.
hey bard. there is actually a great apres ski place in serfaus. ski in fall out. it is called Patschis pub http://www.patschi.at
another place is located in fiss and is called hexenkessel.
Serfaus is no Ischgl but yes there are a few apres ski locations - this is Austria after all! The Hexenalm can have a great atmosphere but tends to close early and then become a restaurant - no dancing on the tales when the schnitzels are being served.
We can’t decide what is the best town to stay in. Serfaus, Fiss or Ladis. Is Ladis too far out of the way? What are the differences between the three areas or does it matter?
Hi Dave, Serfaus has the most resort feel to it and probably is the most upmarket, Fiss has a great range of accommodation and is central in the ski region and Ladis is the most spacious and relaxed, probably the least touristy resort of the three. Ladis into the central Fiss ski area is easy - one lift, but the best skiing is located above Serfaus so further to go - but in terms of skiing across an area to reach some then it is one of the best places in region.
