Snow, seasonal temperatures and schnapps in the coming days

After the unseasonal weather across the Alps the weather is set for a far colder period according to the long and short range forecasts. Whilst the Austrian glaciers have been in fantastic shape for autumn skiing they will soon be bursting at the seams as more people opt to go to them during the wait for the lower ski areas to open. The snow is coming at just the right time – my ski hill Axamer Lizum is set to peon next weekend which is good news for the area, less so for my precariously balanced work/social/family life mix. So even with all the talk and worries about opening times the snow has been a week or 2 late this year, the same happened in early autumn with the threat of a cancelled Solden FIS ski race weekend saved by the 2 week delayed dump that left 1.5m on the southerly glaciers in Austria. As soon as the snow arrives we will be sure to add some images. This weekend it is the Stubai Glacier with friends arriving from the UK – schnee und schnapps this weekend.

Glad to hear the weather is turning in our favour, shame about Axamer Lizum not open until the following weekend.

Yes, one other thing, there has been a national recall of all beverages over 2.1% alcohol for the coming week. Sorry about that. They do a mean tea over here?

……only kidding, the alcohol prices are as irresistible as ever in Austria!

So I finally had the honor of meeting the best customers/friends of skiing austria last night. All the stories about the dice game are really true. I am suffering at work at the moment and am looking forward to the next round in Saalbach in February.

yes I have to admit that productivity is likely to soar after their departure - the clouds in the Innsbruck valley are hovering around my head this morning. Saalbach is just around the corner - will we ever be safe?
