The sunny skies finally break and it is snowing in Innsbruck

After a couple of weeks of almost unbroken blue skies and incessant freezing temperatures the weather has broken and we have snow falling now down to Innsbruck. It started a couple of hours ago and is set to continue over the coming 2 days before we are set to return to a mix of blue skies and cloudy conditions / snow showers. In the absence of new snow the extremely cold conditions have ensured that the piste skiing has remained very, very good. Long clear spells in mid winter are common in Austria but even the locals have been surprised by the continual bitterly cold conditions during this time – it has been warm to bearable in the sun on the slopes but really challenging in the shade. For me the colder the better – but the new snow is makes an enjoyable change, I just hope there is enough for powder skiing, something that I have not done since December :(

Sounds great, it was also good conditions last year, early on with a big dump.

Signs look good for the coming weeks.

    Baest wishes
