What an amazing day this is - still fairly green at 8am and now in Saalbach and Kaprun there is a really decent dump. Add that to what the snow cannons have laid down and I think we are going to be good to go. One lift is already open in Hinterglemm ahead of [...]

We are going to be doing our last skiing of the season in Saalbach in a week and a bit but I’m now going to be honest – I actually think Saalbach is even better in the summer. When I first started going to Saalbach some 21 years ago in the summer they were already [...]

I’ve just been reading up today on the further plans for 2 lifts and related infrastructure costing 27 Million Euros this year. This is the most I have seen Saalbach or any existing resort invest in lifts in a single year to date. Now Saalbach is not a cheap resort – we know that but [...]

Portions of ski food in the valley are usually far from small - forget nouvel cuisine, my husband likens it to the portions sizes in Wigan but better quality (apologies to all the pie eaters out there). Most of it is standard Austrian fayre but a couple of dishes are local to the valley or [...]

Year on year Saalbach has continued to invest millions in new ski lifts with 2 or 3 new lifts each year. Recession or not they have continued to invest and this week I found out more about the 2011 plans. I was really pleased to see a new 8 seater cable car on the Bernkogel [...]

When you are in Saalbach you will find that like many other resorts there are a couple of local TV channels giving piste info, local offers and mountain cams. In a way it’s a pity that these can’t be viewed via the web from the UK before you go. The next best thing for viewing [...]

There used to be a small freestyle park in Saalbach which has been removed to extend the beginners slopes. The reason I mention this is because it had small jumps and a rail e.g. stuff I would try on skis. This has been replaced by an upgraded park in Hinterglemm which is amazing but way [...]

I’m off to Baden in Switzerland shortly for some work related stuff. I was on their website reading about their ‘amazing’ spa and wonder if it really can live up to those close to us in Saalbach. I’m a bit of a spa Junkie - I love them. In fact when I retire I plan [...]

There was reputed to be a metre of snow that fell in the Otztal valley in the autumn but I missed that one. Today the biggest snowfall I had actually seen this winter sent me east over to Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The snowfall was somewhere between 30 and 50+ cm as far as I could tell. It [...]

Fancy a day off the slopes in Saalbach Hinterglemm – perhaps Piste Basher driving, Paragliding or Audi skid panning? Yes there truly is lots to do if you fancy a day off or something different.
Lets start with Piste Basher driving which has to be the ultimate winter sports fans dream. I discovered this place when [...]

I guess I had to write this piece as having spent so long in Saalbach and Hinterglemm we have had the odd inevitable brush with the medical services. The most dramatic has to be the accident my son had in Feb 2010 – it was to say the least random. He was skiing down the [...]

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks in Saalbach and Hinterglemm checking out the new huts, cable car and runs with my six year old son.
We firstly tried out the new u-bahn cable car in the Centre of Hinterglemm. The cable car itself was never running at full capacity so luckily no queuing even at [...]

A couple of things stand out this year on the slopes, one last weekend was great powder skiing followed by the Hoff and Kit on stage in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the other was heli-skiing in the Arlberg. It is fair to say that everyone should experience these 2 alpine treats. Last weekend in freezing but sunny weather [...]

The snow this December in Saalbach is about the best I can ever remember – its more like Feb than Dec !
It does make me think about the deep snow we have seen before in Saalbach and how things are kept running like clockwork. At the moment people in the UK are struggling with a [...]

Snow conditions today in Saalbach-Hinterglemm were superb. I am in the resort for the weekend for their ‘stars unlimited’ concert which features Bonnie Tyler, DJ Otzi and David Hasselhoff who headlined last night. Der Hoff was caught in the UK flight chaos and the good people at Saalbach-Hinterglemm tourism chartered a jet for the Hoff. [...]
