Those on the Stubai Glacier yesterday were served up a staggering 80cm of new snow - surely the best day of the autumn season so far. The other glaciers are also have superb snow depths:

The Austrian Alps are currently getting hit with the first real snow of the winter and around Innsbruck today there was endless and heavy snowfall. So after a mild September in the Alps the weather is changing to bring colder and wet weather to Austria. I have never quite understood how you can measure the snow depth on a glacier but there are far smarter people than me doing exactly that as the glaciers open for the autumn ski season. The Tirol Snow Card - 1 Ski pass, 77 Ski areas, 923 Lifts, 3105 kms of piste, valid between 01/10/09 and 15/05/10 - €590
