Hard to believe but if September 2010 delivers some fresh powder then there has been powder skiing on offer on the Austria glaciers for a full 12 months. The last few days over in Austria have seen cool and very wet weather with snow down to around 2100m and 30cm of powder on the Hintertux [...]

For those already missing the white peaks (myself certainly included) the last couple of days have provided a great tonic. Snow as far down as Fulpmes in the Stubai Valley in June is not unknown but may not be welcomed by all. I went up to Axamer Lizum today and the lower ski pistes were [...]

Josh my 13 month old son wore ski goggles on day 1 and with them came a promise that he would ski the day after his first steps, not a day later. Well the first step is still to materialise and Josh is set to miss another powder day on the local glaciers. The weather [...]

Not the best advert for spring and early summer in the Austrian Tirol but superb for those looking for some late season powder, the weather this week in the Innsbruck region is more like March than May with snow down to 1500m and heavy snow forecast on the glaciers in the coming days. Since the [...]

I was over in Lech-Zurs yesterday for a meeting and took in a bit of relaxing sun in Zurs am Arlberg before heading over to Lech am Arlberg. Zurs was busy with spring skiers, I did not ski but could see the packed hotel terraces - the Arlberg in spring really is the high life. [...]

For those here over the last week there has been several top powder skiing days with some great conditions on offer today. Heavy snow fell during a visit to Seefeld yesterday and the around Innsbruck the snow line was down to maybe 1100m. Snow is set to fall all day today and clear tomorrow.

Plenty of snow today as far as Innsbruck centre whilst the ski holiday resorts located around Innsbruck got a good deal of new snow. Powder days await in the coming days. A friend from the Arlberg reported ‘lots’ of snow over the next few days in the Arlberg - hopefully I will get over there [...]

This morning brought new snow again in Gerlos after the 2nd night of snow in succession and with temperatures set to fall over the coming week and the arrival of new snow, Easter is looking good in Austria. I was over watching live music in Konigsleiten yesterday and today spent a bit more time around [...]

For those of a jealous disposition then my advice is to not play the video below. In very many years and days on the ski slopes it ranks as one of the very best. The heli ski flight. Skiing with a world champion. Great powder snow. Clear skies. No other skiers or snowboarders in sight. [...]

Some days everything comes together. Today, heli skiing in the Arlberg with a world champion powder skier and 2 Stuben am Arlberg locals was that day. We cancelled a heli ski flight last week due its departure late in the afternoon and then managed to schedule a flight early today. That was certainly part A [...]

So the skies cleared today and the powder in both Konigsleiten and Hochkrimml was great. The gradient in the Konigsleiten area of the Zillertal Arena was better for powder skiing and there was some great powder routes on offer but it was a nice surprise to ski some powder on the fringes of the Hochkrimml [...]

I remember (just) from my surfing days that when swells arrived our schedules went out of the window. Everything apart from surfing and partying were relegated to inconveniences - ah the days of youthful innocence and transgressions. I feel like a kid again - I loaded up the car with the powder boards tonight and [...]

Currently trying to schedule a heli-ski flight with some very good skiers from a Stuben hotel and their neighbour, who as far as I know doesn’t own a hotel but does live in Stuben am Arlberg and is a powder champion. Illustrious company! We were set to go up today but I left it too [...]

Just back in Innsbruck after the ski trip to Davos and the frigid temperatures of the Swiss Davos / Klosters region have been experienced in the Austrian Tirol as well. Snow is set to fall over the coming days and the forecast for the Arlberg region is for some great snowfall tomorrow and then a [...]

The Tirol got a good dump of snow over the Friday / Saturday and today I headed up to Alpbach where the blue skies and powder snow made for some great conditions, certainly the very best of the last week. Alpbach is predominantly a family ski area both with locals and visitors but there is [...]
