Gerlos and the Zillertal Arena delivered a big, big powder day today. Zell am Ziller had similar snow but the low cloud conditions were best in Gerlos where the sun broke through for some good periods. The powder snow was superb. Check out our latest snow report from the slopes of Gerlos today:
There was a [...]

Today the Zillertal Arena hosted the Stroh Juchee ‘sled race’ - Austria once again proving that it can do the bizarre as well as anyone with the USS Enterprise and a group of cross-dressed, beauty pageant farmers gracing the event. The day was very much a family affair with kids on sledges watching adults on [...]

I was back in the Zillertal Valley yesterday and for those who like cold air, new snow and superb views then it would have been a day to remember. I am not sure of the temperatures out of the sun but the fresh snow under ski was squeaking, as were my fingers as I adjusted [...]

Just back from the Zillertal Arena and saw Gerlos après ski at its best - snowing heavily, europop après ski mixes, Glühwein stands and the mountain lit up in the distance - it was a great sight. The lifts were running today in Gerlos and for those up there it was certainly a great powder [...]

Just back from Zell am Ziller in the Zillertal Arena. If you haven’t been, change that soon - it is one of the best kept secrets in Austrian skiing. I personally rate alongside the Arlberg as the best ski region in Austria. It is very different to the Arlberg and very varied. The fundamentals are [...]

One of the themes that we feature on the new Skiing Austria website is the ‘best skiing in Austria’. We think that the best ski holiday resorts in Austria are Lech, St Anton, Stuben, Neustift, Solden, Konigsleiten, Gerlos and Zauchensee. There are some very big names in Austrian skiing clearly missing from this list and [...]

The TV weather channel here in Austria complete with its accompanying Volksmusik is showing a very white landscape across Austria. The Zillertal Arena resorts of Gerlos and Konigsleiten are continuing to see heavy snow as are the Zell am See - Kaprun and Saalbach-Hinterglemm regions. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier looked in great shape whilst all the [...]

It seems on my last post on the Tirol snow card I had failed to read the small print. The card which covers 77 Ski areas, 923 Lifts, 3105 kms of piste and is valid between 01/10/09 and 15/05/10 costs €590 but for those with the residency papers in Tirol then the cost tumbles to [...]

So after a mild September in the Alps the weather is changing to bring colder and wet weather to Austria. Snow is forecast for the coming days on the higher ground as well as the glaciers and the snow is forecast through into next week. Temperatures are forecast to be down 10-15 degrees celcius on [...]

Lifts are set to roll in the biggest ski area in the biggest ski valley in Austria – the Zillertal Arena. The Zillertal Arena resorts of Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Konigsleiten and Hochkrimml open for action on the 5th December. The following weekend there is a musical extravaganza with none other than DJ Moped. If [...]

Gerlos in the Zillertal Arena served up quite incredible conditions back in Dcember 08. Cold and sunny with some great new snow. Gerlos is well off the radar for most non Dutch and German skiers and snowboarders and that is the case for the Zillertal Arena itself. I have to say after having skied the [...]

At the heart of the Zillertal Arena, Gerlos offered great skiing both on and off-piste, whilst the terrain around Wilde Krimml that links the ski areas of Gerlos and Zell am Ziller had some of the most spectacular scenery that you will see; all on Boxing Day 2008. For intermediate skiers and snowboarders, Gerlos and [...]
