Back in boots & boots in bindings tomorrow for the season opener on the Hintertux Glacier. Conditions there today look incredible - see the webcam below. The Hintertux Glacier was not the only recipient of the April snow - the Pitztal Glacier and Stubai Glacier also got around half a metre of new snow but [...]

Not the best advert for summer holidays in Austria (and you know this is a glorious place even without the snow) but today saw new snow across the local peaks around Innsbruck and it is currently hammering it down in cold weather. Snow is forecast down to 2000m overnight and judging by the precipitation it [...]

Hard to believe but if September 2010 delivers some fresh powder then there has been powder skiing on offer on the Austria glaciers for a full 12 months. The last few days over in Austria have seen cool and very wet weather with snow down to around 2100m and 30cm of powder on the Hintertux [...]

….possibly somewhere but certainly also at the Hintertux Glacier in Austria this August 3rd. There are those out there that feel the summer is for water and tanning. And others who dream of the eternal ability to slide across snow and ice every single day of the year. Tragically I am too busy this week [...]

A client who contacted us went to the Hintertux Glacier today for some summer skiing - hard to believe given the temperatures of the Innsbruck valley right now but there was 20km of skiing on offer. Maybe the frigid May and June in the Austrian Alps has helped preserve the snow cover but 20 km [...]

Gerlos and the Zillertal Arena delivered a big, big powder day today. Zell am Ziller had similar snow but the low cloud conditions were best in Gerlos where the sun broke through for some good periods. The powder snow was superb. Check out our latest snow report from the slopes of Gerlos today:
There was a [...]

Today the Zillertal Arena hosted the Stroh Juchee ‘sled race’ - Austria once again proving that it can do the bizarre as well as anyone with the USS Enterprise and a group of cross-dressed, beauty pageant farmers gracing the event. The day was very much a family affair with kids on sledges watching adults on [...]

I was back in the Zillertal Valley yesterday and for those who like cold air, new snow and superb views then it would have been a day to remember. I am not sure of the temperatures out of the sun but the fresh snow under ski was squeaking, as were my fingers as I adjusted [...]

The Zillertal seemed to do pretty well out of the latest snowfall in Austria over night. With just 10cm or so falling in the Innsbruck region there was genuine powder skiing today in the Zillertal Valley. The ski areas in the Zillertal 3000 including Finkenberg and Lanersbach had some great powder today as did Mayrhofen. [...]

Here in Innsbruck the weather has been very wet, windy and for the areas above the freezing level (today that was about 1100m in Innsbruck) there has been big accumulations of snow. Last week there was no snow on the peaks. According to the snow reports the Hintertux Glacier has had a metre of new [...]

Back from an enjoyable day on the Hintertux Glacier yesterday, with great early summer skiing under blue skies and still with a great cover of snow. The Hintertux Glacier freestyle park was in full flow yesterday with a multinational mix of skiers and snowboarders taking advantage of the sunny weather of soft snow for landings. [...]

Austria continues to see very cold and clear conditions. Today I was in the linked ski area of Hochzillertal and Hochfugen. At first there was widespread cloud cover and very flat light but as the morning wore on the skies cleared leaving superb cloud formations. The area was busy as it is the easiest of [...]
