The après ski king gets a toy – Hammerschlagen in Kent
Austria exports one of its greatest cultural assets to the south east of the UK - Hammerschlagen can now be found in rural Kent. And the recipient, responsible for single handedly keeping the brewing and distilling industry of the Alps afloat for the last decade is more than proud to show off his new toy. Hammerschlagen is the Austrian après ski game where hand eye coordination is key. Hammerschlagen always takes place in the bar and is the sort off game that Jocky Wilson would have excelled at. Not yet an Olympic sport, it could still be in the running for the 2012 games should a team develop on the back of the Kent log. It is still unclear how the neighbours in this sleepy corner of the UK are going to adapt to the repetitious noise of steel ricocheting off steel, the dull thud of a hammer into a log and victory celebrations late into the night.

‘No nails? Then let’s aim between the fingers.’
What a fabulous idea!
The idea might have merit but if you notice they both have bottled beer in hand. There is one excited face and one anxious one – I am not sure there is 100% trust there?
I think Dan has just recognised that it is a mighty fine looking piece of wood & is a little reluctant to part with it.
That is not stained blood on top of the log & Dan does have all his fingers.
It is the beer bottle and hammer in a single hand that causes the most distress.
Had to hold him up, he was plastered!
Well a carefully placed nail and you might be able to keep him upright for a while.
