White peaks replace the white clouds
After a sustained cold and wet front the skies have cleared to reveal the extent of the first winter snap and it is all good. Pretty much all the region in Austria got a good dump of snow and whilst the weather is set to be milder this week in Austria the ski holiday resorts of Austria are well set for an early start to the season. The Austrian glaciers are in great shape although the deep new snow over the weekend was accompanied by bitingly cold weather – we had staff on the Stubai Glacier over the weekend and the temperatures were reported as bitterly cold. Around Innsbruck the mountains are thick with snow, the picture below is of Axamer Lizum from the valley – the season opening at Axamer Lizum, Innsbruck is only a few weeks away now.

I deeply hope that the beloved warm wind FÖHN will f*** off as soon as possible and the cold will come back…anyway I will check out the glacier conditions after a mild week, which are I guess still pretty good
Hi Kathrin, nice use of the * key there but yes the southerly wind sucks as it makes people here mad(der) and also brings mild temperatures. We still had snow down to 1500m in the Southern Alps today though so not too bad. Yes I will also be on the glaciers this weekend, the first time on skis since June. I hope I remember how to do it and hope my knees can handle the summer kilos! If you see Johannes Koell on your travels keep him a long way from skis, he topped my weight in the annual weigh off - the first win I have had in 8 years against that whale
His knees would have no chance this autumn!
