winter 09/10 - Los geht’s

So after a mild September in the Alps the weather is changing to bring colder and wet weather to Austria. Snow is forecast for the coming days on the higher ground as well as the glaciers and the snow is forecast through into next week. Temperatures are forecast to be down 10-15 degrees celcius on the last week. Ski areas set to get snow are the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers at Solden, the Hintertux Glacier, Stubai Glacier, Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Kaunertal Glacier, Pitztal Glacier and the higher ski areas such as St Anton, St Christoph, Zurs am Arlberg, Obergurgl and the Zillertal Arena.
wuhuuu…cant wait!!! can already smell the snow
The old hotmail inbox is getting full of messages from New England resorts pedling cheap passes and early promised season snow. Seeing those pictures makes me yearn for some alpine action. Also, Magic Pizza would be good right about now. You heard it here first, folks, after years of abstinance Uncle Ben is daring to take his wife to Kitz. We will keep you posted. Oh yeah, the kids may be staying with the grandparents, which is an even bigger achievement.
I can recommend both Kitzbuhel and the Innsbruck pizzas. Winter will arrive overnight here in Innsbruck. The glaciers have had some snow over the last days but we have a cold and wet week ahead of us here this week, things are going to look a whole lot different when the skies next clear later in the week. I even tried the ski goggles on Josh for size, at 5 months they fit like a dream. Not sure he is excited as I am yet or else he can’t say, but he must surely be dreaming of it?
Hi Ben - great news about Kitzbuhel. There is indeed some snow coming. The organizers of the World Cup Ski Opening in Sölden were talking about canceling the race last week due to the lack of snow. Fortunately they don’t have to worry about it anymore. Can’t wait to see josh an skis.
Hey local one
It really is dumping hey, up here at Gotzens I could see the snow line today and I would guess it was about 1200m maybe a bit less. Very cold tonight and the snow line is set to drop a long way tomorrow. I have not seen the stats but this must have left a lot of snow on the peaks, it really has not stopped sleeting and raining today at lower levels, the higher elevation must be deep in it.
