Saalbach – Hinterglemm – Apres Ski at Half Past Three |

The villages have won a number of awards for the best après ski in Europe and with good reason – there is just so much of it.

Apres ski starts at three thirty in the afternoon – at around 4pm you can find people dancing in discos with beers and rum. Of all the après ski open in the afternoon there is only one I would not venture inside with children and that it the Bauers Skialm in Saalbach. It may be heaven for adults but it is rammed and boisterous – although we are happy to drink at the umbrella bar outside.

Matthew blogged on here some time ago about the Goat Stall in Hinterglemm. If you coming at it from the village rather than on skis it is a bit of a walk up (don’t think you need to walk across the slope there is a tunnel under it!). We have enjoyed the Goat Stall on many occasions. I remember once my 2 year old son dancing with a ring of 20 something girls around him to the goat song. They do great après ski for all ages – there is an out door kids playground, goat shop, good food and lots of space outside to dance. There are of cause the goats who are cute and a themed goat disco.

Another favourite for afternoon après ski in Hinterglemm is Tanz Himmel at Apresworld on the main road through the village. Inside there is a full disco with DJ booth taking requests. The mood is fun and happy with lots of dancing which can get very wild.

If you are in Saalbach things are a bit less wild on the whole apart from the Bauers Skialm as I mentioned above. However opposite the Bauers is a great après ski spot with both indoor and outdoor areas called Spitzbub – its just a nice place to hang out.

Our all time favourite is the makeshift bar in the front garden of Haus Wien next to the Bauers Skialm. Its low key, its where the ski teachers drink and it’s a building made from trees, tarpaulin and bits of wood. The provider heaters, kids schnapps (fruit juice) and blankets for kids. Some of the best drinking moments of my après ski life have been in this bar – it always attracts a friendly lot and our drinks are on the bar before we have ordered.
