Being a big regional ski destination Flachau has some great on-slope facilities including numerous mountain huts and an extensive and modern ski lift system. The skiing takes place below the tree line so in times of poor weather the tree cover is ideal for families not wanting to lose sight of their kids. On the lower slopes which fringe the ski holiday resort of Flachau there are numerous dedicated kids ski areas and for those families wanting to explore further with improving kids there are very few seriously challenging pistes to worry about. Off the slopes then Flachau is equally suited to families. Flachau does have après ski and some of the best in the region but this is mostly concentrated in the umbrella bars at the ski lift base-stations. Traffic in Flachau tends to be local since the autobahn running through the valley takes nearly all the through traffic and there are a number of walks through the resort. There are sufficient shops in Flachau and together with neighbouring Altenmarkt there are ample facilities in these two regional centres.
