SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, AUSTRIA SKI HOLIDAYS

Hinterglemm forms one part of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region that also includes Leogang further down the valley. Hinterglemm is distinct from Saalbach although in practice the 2 ski holiday resorts merge to form one long resort. The same can be said for the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region although Hinterglemm has the tougher and steeper skiing of the 2 locations. The combined Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region is large and superb for intermediates whilst the après ski is some of the very best in Austria.

SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM – SUPERB SKIING & SNOWBOARDING

The Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region is a superb intermediate ski area. Beginners have a dedicated area in Hinterglemm, whilst those progressing onto the main ski pistes can head over toward the Spieleckkogel for some gentle blue ski pistes. The northern section of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region, all the way down to Saalbach and onto Leogang offers plenty of easy, tree-lined skiing and snowboarding. On the southern side of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region, especially in the Hinterglemm sector, the skiing can be far steeper and more challenging and is good for better intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The ski pistes and ski routes down from the Zwölferkogel peak are steep and challenging, whilst the pistes from the Schattberg back into Saalbach are also pretty challenging. Much of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region though is ideal for intermediates, especially those who like to take numerous breaks – mountain huts are everywhere in the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region. Après ski in Hinterglemm is not quite as lively as in Saalbach but it is not far off it either.
