The ski resort of Kaprun is a decent size and sits in a wide valley between the local glaciers and the lake at Zell am See. It is well equipped and has good transport links. The variety of skiing and snowboarding on offer in the combined Zell am See - Kaprun is impressive. For beginners and families the local skiing at the Maiskogel ski area, located on the edge of Kaprun is a great option. The skiing is almost all gentle and tree lined and is perfect for families. For more and better intermediate skiing and snowboarding then the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is located just outside and above Kaprun. As well as offering guaranteed snow and skiing from autumn through to early summer, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier has wide slopes, often with excellent snow conditions throughout the winter. The skiing at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is perfect for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, whilst Zell am See offers further intermediate skiing as well as steeper terrain. The Zell am See ski area is covered on the combined Zell am See - Kaprun ski pass and is located above and accessed from various parts of the resort of Zell am See. The Zell am See ski area has more steep skiing than either Kaprun – Maiskogel or the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. The Zell am See - Kaprun ski area has great variety.
