KAUNERTAL GLACIER SKI HOLIDAYS

The Kaunertal Glacier has about the most remote and wild setting of any ski area in the Alps. The Kaunertal Glacier is located in the far reaches of a natural park and has no accommodation anywhere close to it. The freestyle ski and snowboard scene is huge on the Kaunertal Glacier and there have been upgraded lifts over recent years. The massive kickers in the terrain park are a real draw whilst the wide and gentle pistes are ideal for learning or for some fast carving.

KAUNERTAL GLACIER – GLACIER SKIING IN THE WILDS

There is no resort as such at the Kaunertal Glacier, all visitors arrive for the day and drive in privately or by bus. The Kaunertal Glacier has two embarkation points the first at the Ochsenalm car park whilst 600m further up the mountain there is the Kaunertal Glacier mid-station where the majority of the facilities at the Kaunertal Glacier are located. There is a projected lift up to over 3500m that would make it the highest skiing in Austria. The skiing itself is pretty gentle with wide ski pistes that are ideal for beginners or those wanting some high speed carving. The ski holiday resorts serving the Kaunertal Glacier are located in the Kaunertal valley with Feichten being the closest resort to the glacier. The terrain in the Kaunertal Glacier is ideal for kids with lots of space on gentle slopes but in the region the ski holiday resorts of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis would be worth considering as they are just further down the valley than the Kaunertal ski resorts. There is very little après ski at the Kaunertal Glacier, just a few sociable beers on the terraces before everyone departs in the late afternoon.
