KITZBUHEL SKIING & SNOWBOARDING

Kitzbuhel skiing takes place on 2 sides of the valley and links with the massive Kitzbuheler Alpen ski area and the Ski Welt ski region via Westendorf. For all its fearsome reputation associated with the Hahnenkamm downhill - the most demanding race on the calendar, Kitzbuhel skiing is in fact pretty gentle and ideal for intermediate skiers. And for those looking to ski great distances then the new lifts linking Kitzbuhel - Westendorf - Brixen make it easy to ski huge distances in a day.

KITZBUHEL SKIING - HAHNENKAMM & KITZBUHELER HORN

There are 2 distinct ski areas above Kitzbuhel, the Hahnenkamm side and the Kitzbuheler Horn area. Of the 2 the Hahnenkamm offers the vast majority of terrain whilst the Horn side offers the Kitzbuhel park life. Not only is the Hahnenkamm the bigger area it also links with neighbouring areas such as Kirchberg, the Westendorf ski area and also serves as the access point to Pass Thurn, the extent of the Kitzbuhel ski area to the south of the town. Much of the skiing in Kitzbuhel is tree lined and for intermediates the area is outstanding. For advanced skiers and snowboarders there is off-piste and of course the Hahnenkamm ski route but generally Kitzbuhel is not great for the best skiers. Beginners have a large area located on the edge of the resort and before the Hahnenkamm peak rears up. And for those improving then there is a good deal of terrain at the top of the Hahnenkamm gondola to advance into. Ski safaris out of Kitzbuhel are excellent and extensive and local buses running between the network of resorts offers a good safety net for those missing the last lift back.
