PITZTAL GLACIER SKI HOLIDAYS – HIGHEST SKIING IN AUSTRIA

The Pitztal Glacier has the highest skiing in Austria and some of the highest in the Alps. Accessed via an underground funicular the Pitztal Glacier ski area is located in a natural bowl high above the Pitztal valley. The skiing is ideal for intermediates whilst a few of the pistes are sufficiently steep for the pre-season race training of national teams. New lifts have been added to the Pitztal Glacier and there are bold plans to link to the nearby Solden glaciers. The scenery from the top of the Pitztal Glacier is sensational.

The height of the Pitztal Glacier is hard to beat and the fact that there is a ski holiday resort located at the base station of the Pitztal Glacier under-ground funicular make it a popular destination. The highest ski area in Austria also has some of the best secenery – the views from the top of the Pitztal Glacier are sensational with glaciers rolling off the Wildspitze – the highest peak in Tirol. The Pitztal Glacier is a popular launch point for ski tours to this famous peak. The skiing on the Pitztal Glacier ranges between wide, gentle slopes to some steep sections down from the Hinterer Brunnenkogel, the highest point on the Pitztal Glacier at 3440m. New lifts have really improved the access to some of sections of the Pitztal Glacier and there are further plans in the pipeline. With such a height the snow can be sensational in the winter months. The lifts open toward the end of September and run through until early summer. The Pitztal Glacier base station is also close to the lift connecting the resort area of Mandarfen to the Rifflsee ski area, a non glacier skiing area.
