RIFFLSEE & THE PITZTAL GLACIER AUSTRIA SKI HOLIDAYS

Rifflsee is the ski area located next to the Pitztal Glacier which shares the ski holiday resort of Mandarfen at the far end of the Pitztal valley in Austria. The Pitztal Glacier offers the highest lift accessed skiing in Austria and the blue # 1 ski piste runs out of Rifflsee and past the Pitz Express underground funicular that accesses the Pitztal Glacier ski area. The Rifflsee ski area has a good top height of 2800m and the gondola accessing it as well as the ski runs back to the resort are conveniently located close to the resort centre.

RIFFLSEE - HIGH-ALTITUDE & GLACIER SKIING IN THE PITZTAL

Height is one of the key features of the Rifflsee ski area - the skiing reaches 2800m and there is a ski piste out of Rifflsee that reaches the base-station of the Pitztal Glacier ski lift system, offering access to the highest ski lift in Austria. Rifflsee offers a ski area to complement the glacier skiing at the Pitztal Glacier and offers a fair range of easy and steep skiing. For intermediates then there is more extensive skiing on offer at the Pitztal Glacier but Rifflsee does offer some genuine blacks as well as some gentle blues. The skiing takes place in a natural and high altitude bowl with the frozen Rifflsee located in the centre. The scenery is rugged and spectacular. In the valley is the ski holiday resort of Mandarfen, the last main settlement before the end of the valley. There is a small beginner’s ski area located in the resort as well as a number of hotels. The ski piste back down from the Rifflsee ski area travels along the resort edge, whilst the ski lift accessing the Rifflsee area leaves from close to the centre of the resort.
