SCHRUNS, MONTAFON, AUSTRIA SKI HOLIDAYS

Schruns is the Montafon ski holiday resort made all the more famous through the visits of Ernest Hemingway. It is one of the first ski areas to be reached upon entering the Montafon ski region and is the principal town in the Montafon area. The skiing above Schruns takes place in the Hochjoch ski area that is also accessed by the Montafon ski holiday resort of Silbertal. Schruns has probably the most rounded feel of any of the Montafon ski holiday resorts and has a decent range of facilities.

SCHRUNS SKIING IN THE HICHJOCH - MONTAFON SKI REGION

The skiing above Schruns in the Hochjoch ski area takes place in an interesting natural rock bowl. A ski tunnel connects 2 sections of the ski area that are divided by a mountain. The skiing in the Hochjoch ski area is almost all suited to beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The area at the Kapell restaurant hosts the childrens learning area whilst there is also a beginners ski area in the vicinity of this mid-station. There are 3 ways into the Hochjoch ski area, 2 via Schruns and 1 via Silbertal. Ski pistes back to Schruns arrive at the Hochjoch cable car base-station on the edge of Schruns. The Hochjoch ski area is part of the larger Montafon ski region and the Montafon ski pass covers the whole Montafon area. In the Montafon ski region the Silvretta Nova is the biggest and possibly the best ski area, Gargellen is the highest ski resort and has good access to the slopes and the Golm ski area is located just across the Montafon valley from Schruns and offers mainly intermediate skiing. Schruns has many locals living there and has more atmosphere than some resorts in Montafon.
