Austria has many resorts which are kept a little bit more of a secret from the English speaking world – yet still world class ski resorts!! From the relatively new and snow sure resort of Nassfeld in Carinthia, to the tiny village of Stuben which accesses the St Anton ski area, all of these places are well worth a visit!

Below you will find a few ideas we have for you if you wanted to go somewhere a little different:

Stuben am Arlberg
Stuben is an absolutely beautiful little traditional village in the Arlberg – that picture postcard Austrian village everyone imagines! And its location could not be better – situated between Lech and St Anton, Stuben is snow sure, ski–in/ski-out and accesses the St Anton ski area – known as one of the best in Austria! So if you are looking for a traditional, romantic or peaceful winter holiday with amazing skiing, this could be just the place for you! And one other secret – it has some of the best off- piste skiing around – but the local Austrians don’t want you to know that!

Dachstein West
Only an hour from Salzburg airport and in the beautiful lakes region of Austria –Salzammergut, the large Dachstein West region boasts 144km of perfectly groomed pistes, great for the intermediate skier. The skiing in the Dachstein West ski region reaches 2100m and and aswell as the large area itself, the ski pass encompasses many other nearby ski pistes which makes it interesting to ski safari into different areas and cover some good distances on intermediate terrain.

Nassfeld in Carinthia
With an excellent location close to Klagenfurt (served by Ryanair), Nassfeld is located right on the border with Italy and Austria and their Ski Arena is a little known gem of a resort in the sunny province of Carinthia. It is Carinthia’s largest and most modern ski resort with 110km of snow sure pistes to suit all levels of skier and boarder and with the option of some great off piste into Italy . The ski area also boasts the longest flood-lit night ski piste in Europe. As well as the main resort of Trφpolach, there are some beautiful nearby villages and towns to stay in.

Serfaus–Fiss-Ladis –Ski Dimension
Relatively undiscovered outside of Austria and Germany - although this is set to change - the ski resorts of Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis offer a fantastic skiing terrain and very traditional and attractive villages. For families it would be hard to find a better ski resort – with many family friendly hotels and a huge children’s ski area aswell as snow slides, a zoo, fairytale village and the list goes on. High resort elevation ensures good snow and the off piste skiing opportunities are immense.

Altenmarkt –Zauchensee
Only a 40 minute transfer from Salzburg airport, the pretty market town of Altenmarkt and the nearby alpine village of Zauchensee are part of the Salzburger Sportwelt Ski region. In fact, the area is also part of the Ski Amade area, boasting 865km of pistes and over 270 lifts. It is perfect for a quick weekend break in December if you want to enjoy their festive advent markets and perhaps the strange Austrian traditional of Krampus Evening, which involves much time spent drinking mulled wine and running from the stick waving Krampus!
