STUBAI GLACIER SKIING - BIG, HIGH & VERY GOOD

The Stubai Glacier is located directly south of Innsbruck and is rated one of the top glacier skiing areas in the word. The ski lift system is modern and comprehensive and the on-mountain facilities are excellent. With a top lift height of over 3200m the snow throughout the winter can be outstanding whilst the length of the season is also impressive, running from late September through to early summer. Visitors to the Stubai Glacier mainly stay down the valley in the ski holiday resort of Neustift.

STUBAI GLACIER – GREAT FOR FAMILY SKI HOLIDAYS

The Stubai Glacier offers some of the best family ski facilities in Austria. The ski lift station complex at the Gamsgarten has indoor and outdoor child facilities that are outstanding. Within the Gamsgarten lift complex there is a kids restaurant, a crèche and play area. Just outside is the kids learning area that has covered moving carpets ski lifts and various ski activities set up. For intermediate skiers the Stubai Glacier area is also excellent, the ski pistes on the Stubai Glacier are generally wide and usually have superb snow throughout the main winter months. For beginners and lower intermediates these ski pistes are some of the best available to learn on, the width and gradient being ideal to improve techniques. For better intermediates there are a number of similarly wide red ski pistes that are popular with ski race training clubs as well as ski carvers looking for consistent snow conditions and wide slopes to wind across. Steep skiing on the Stubai Glacier is limited to a few areas but those with good local knowledge and experience can tackle the off-piste – note: crevasses exist above the Eisgrat area.
