ZAUCHENSEE APRES SKI – RESTRAINED & DIES DOWN EARLY ON

There are a number of après ski umbrella bars on the slopes around Zauchensee. Most tend to be joined to hotels and are located on the lower ski pistes in Zauchensee. Mountain huts in Zauchensee are also popular, offering sunny terraces. Whilst there are après options in Zauchensee the resort is geared to families and what après ski there is after the lifts close soon dies down. At night Zauchensee is quiet with most guests to the resort being content to remain in their hotels / accommodation.

ZAUCHENSEE APRES SKI – APRES SKI OPTIONS NEARBY

Zauchensee après ski may well be restrained but just over in the next valley and reachable on skis is the ski holiday resort of Flachau. Flachau has some of the best après ski in the region. There are some classic après ski huts on the mountain in Flachau – the huge plastic beer glass on the middle of the piste en-route back to Flachau is certainly eye-catching. In Flachau itself the après ski carries on around the ski lift base stations as well as in the centre of the resort. Flachauwinkel is just down the valley from Flachau and for those getting some early après ski it is possible to get the lift back into the Zauchensee ski area before they close for the day. The alternative is to take a taxi back to Zauchensee via Altenmarkt. Altenmarkt is the other local option for après ski although the après ski in Altenmarkt has less ski boot dancing than Flachau. Altenmarkt is a region town and has many locals as well as guests – it has a very authentic feel to it and the après ski tends to be more drinking with locals in local bars than the euro-pop of Flachau. A taxi ride back to Altenmarkt is pretty short.
