ZAUCHENSEE SKI RESORT - HIGH & CLOSE TO SALZBURG

Zauchensee is one of the highest ski holiday resorts in the region south of Salzburg. It is also ski-in, ski-out and has 8 ski lifts leaving from resort level – Zauchensee is high on convenience. It is located in a natural bowl and is at the end of the road that leads from Altenmarkt, further down in the valley. Zauchensee has all the usual ski holiday resort facilities whilst most of the leisure facilities off the slopes are located within the hotels and accommodation.

Zauchensee should be used as a model for French ski-in, ski-out ski holiday resorts. It is one of the few purpose built ski holiday resorts in Austria yet has managed to combine ski-in, ski-out convenience with building design that does not blight the area. Zauchensee is made up of a number of large ski hotels but all are low rise and designed in traditional Austrian fashion. Zauchensee also serves as a day ski destination for many in the region and the car park is located at the edge of Zauchensee, next to the gondola to reduce the traffic in the resort centre. With 8 lifts leaving Zauchensee at resort level, Zauchensee is big on convenience. There are a number of hotel terraces for lunch as well as the mountain huts and at the end of the day there are umbrella bars dotted around the slopes for a bit of après ski. Zauchensee though is a relaxed and family orientated ski holiday resort, the après ski dies down quickly and most of the guests staying in Zauchensee will likely dine and remain in their hotel or accommodation. The height of Zauchensee often ensures a good cover of snow at resort level.
