Auf Wiedersehen Dachstein Glacier - you depart with 5m of snow

Temperatures in the valley are climbing but the spring snow pack hasn't conformed to the calendar.

The Dachstein Glacier lifts closed for the summer this week but as of 1st May, it was boasting an astonishing 5m of snow. The highest skiing in the Ski Amade region, the Dachstein Glacier will re-open at the beginning of September, whilst during the summer it will be welcoming summer visitors to its icy terrain.

For skiers and boarders who haven't yet come to terms with the end of the 2017/18 winter, the Stubai Glacier is still hosting riders on its slopes with 20 of its 25 lifts accessing close to 4m of snow, whilst the Hintertux Glacier will offer skiing throughout the summer beneath the mighty Olperer peak, with a current snow pack of around 4m.

For those looking for some more off-the-beaten-track glacier skiing, the Kaunertal Glacier is still open, with 3m of snow pack on offer.
