Fierce cold at the end of February |

The snow Gods really are being kind this winter. Not only have they delivered a whopping snow-pack across the Alps, the temperatures are currently brutally cold and sure to ensure that the spring ski season takes place on deep, white carpets.

The cold has also thinned out the crowds. Over the weekend in Innsbruck, there were noticeably fewer on the slopes, with many locals thinking the skiing would be miserable. It was a day for the snood and think powder mittens, for sure but there was fantastic powder skiing on offer as well as some stunning scenery, with clouds wrapping the peaks at high altitude, producing lake-like effects.

The cold is set to continue for the rest of the week, with intermittent snowfall also forecast. With school holidays finishing up, the next few weeks should offer some truly outstanding skiing.
