Even without the local’s discount, you can ski Sölden for 7 ½ months for the princely sum of €3.50 per day. Surely the greatest ski pass in the world, the Tirol snow card goes on sale today and offers skiing in over 90 ski resorts, accessing more than 1000 lifts and over 4000km of ski pistes, across the Tirol, Austria. And these aren’t back-water locations with names such as Kitzbühel, Mayrhofen, Sölden, Obergurgl, Innsbruck and Ischgl all included. 5 glaciers are also included which can offer epic conditions right through autumn, and seemingly endless skiing into Spring.
One anomaly is St Anton which resists the overtures to participate in the shared ski pass. Cross-border issues with Tirol and Vorarlberg are likely to complicate this for the foreseeable future. On the paper, it is tragic that St Anton is the sole Tirolean resort that is missing, but stand on the peaks of Ischgl, Kitzbühel, Mayrhofen or Sölden for less than the cost of a half-litre of beer and it would be hard to dwell on the absence of St Anton.
