With poles, snow shoes and a back pack, participants can venture out into wonderful, frigid and serene nature without lift queues, bulky gear or week after week of practice. Snow shoe walks are a fantastic activity for non-skiers wanting to sample the delights of the high alpine environment. There is minimal training required and in no time at all, groups can leave their familiar world behind and escape along snowy trails to stunning settings. Increasingly popular, snow shoeing also enables non-skiers to rendezvous with skiing and snowboarding colleagues and not feel as if they are the couch potatoes of the group.

It is not all slogging uphill, the descent can be a whole lot of fun, especially in deep powder with short slides and falling snow to speed things up. And lifts can be taken to shift clients into the best terrain before embarking on their snow shoe tour. Many ski hire shops rent the equipment whilst ski schools offer guides to take groups.
