Several days of heavy snowfall in the mountains around Innsbruck (and even snow as far as the city over the previous days) gave some superb conditions for the season opening at Axamer Lizum. I have had some fantastic season closing days in Axamer Lizum but I think this was the best season opening day I can remember there. The car park filed up late morning as the news of the powder day filtered down to Innsbruck but by that time I had done my lines, hit my only rock of the day save the other one that I landed on and was heading back down to the valley. The glacier season was about 2 weeks later than normal this year and so for the non-glacier skiing resorts. It is never good waiting for the snow but Austria once again delivers the very best of the snow – why ski anywhere else?
