The recent cold & wet snap in Austria has provided a bonanza for those refusing to store their powder planks. Of the couple of hundred of skiers heading up to the expansive snow fields of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, most were hauling racing skis and wearing bibs as they trained with their national teams. That meant those with powder tools were given a virtually private off-piste playground with at least 30cm of new snow to track. The air was frigid and the sun bright on what was one of the best days of late spring riding in some years. Down in the valley, it was business as usual – boats on the lake, joggers on the trails and bathers floating in the spa. Little did they know!
