Sept. 29, 2025
Dry conditions in September have broken, and the Sölden ski area is set to open with snowfall to below 2000m and sub-zero temperatures.
The twin Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers are located high above Sölden and offer nine lifts and skiing to 3250m. The extent of the open ski terrain will be determined by the amount of snow that falls in the coming days. From then on, the ski area will expand to encompass the entire glacier area. The first weeks of October aren’t key corporate ski weeks, but later in the month, the town is alive with the FIS season-opening ski weekend. This is a fantastic spectacle and an ideal festival backdrop to an autumn corporate ski trip. Early November will see the opening of the wider Sölden ski area and the chance to experience Sölden coming to life.
The FIS circus comes to town in October, with the season-opening FIS races of men’s and women’s giant slalom on the Rettenbach glacier. An incredible spectacle and an enormous party, the races are incredible watches and can be combined with a day of skiing on the glaciers. The after-race party is legendary and marks the start of winter in the Austrian Tirol.
After the FIS circus has left town, there are weeks of falling snowline and expanding ski area as winter sets in. Christmas markets are found in many villages in the Ötztal, and the gift of early-season skiing is special.
