It isn’t a day for the SPF50 but the glaciers of Austria are receiving their first instalment of winter 2017/18 with day 1 of several cold and wet days. Snow is falling to around 2600m currently with temperatures set to fall significantly overnight and into tomorrow. The balmy high for Innsbruck tomorrow is forecast to be 12 degrees at 550m.
Right on cue, September has signalled a dramatic fall in temperatures with cooler weather into next week and rain, sleet and snow forecast through until Monday. The Stubai Glacier is planning to open at the beginning of October – so just 1 month to get the ice sheets topped up with fresh snow.
