Market forces have no doubt played a role in creating the après-ski-rich approach to the world-famous ski resort of St Anton am Arlberg. Thronged with skiers and snowboarders, the après ski huts deliver a tractor force that few can escape. The crowded lower slopes enhance the appeal of the huts

Krazy Kanguruh

On the home straight from ‘Happy Valley’, the first of the big hitters to appear is the Krazy Kanguruh, one of the original après ski jaunts in the Alps and the birthplace of many tough mornings. The terrace overlooks the valley and village below and, during winter, is packed with revellers. The international mix of guests are treated to Australia Day and St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Mooserwirt

Few huts in the Alps can compete with the mighty Mooserwirt – a giant of world après ski and an establishment reckoned to sell more beer by volume than any other in Austria – some feat! The terrace rocks throughout the winter, while the interior features DJs, dancing on tables and a bar that swarms with punters. The 20:00 closing time is associated with a mass exodus, as skiers and boarders tackle the final couple of hundred metres of ski piste.

Basecamp

Those exiting the Krazy Kaguruh and Mooserwirt will most likely arrive within range of Basecamp, an open-fronted, slope-side bar next to the Galzig gondola. The fact that few actually need to go to Basecamp doesn’t diminish its patronage—this is a popular bar whose many customers should be showered and sitting down for dinner.

Situated beyond Basecamp are a range of bars and clubs to enjoy late into the night. Those who have stopped off at the Krazy Kanguruh, Mooserwirt and Basecamp have completed their own run of fame.
