Austrians need to ski. So from October through to June the main glacier skiing areas in Austria see anything from a steady flow during the week to hordes on the weekends heading to get early season snow. The 08/09 season kicked off in great fashion with 40cm of powder snow on the 5th October! Throughout the winter the snow quality can be outstanding on the Austrian glaciers and the facilities just as good. Austrian glacier skiing is not a niche activity – these are serious ski areas with top facilities and superb snow.

SOLDEN GLACIER
Solden has 2 glaciers, a superb ski area beneath them and some of the best après ski in the Alps. Solden is big and well equipped, Hochsolden totally ski-in, ski-out.
STUBAI GLACIER
The Stubai Glacier skiing, ski lifts and facilities are about as they get for glacier skiing. Located just south of Innsbruck has superb snow and skiing for intermediates and is great for kids.
HINTERTUX GLACIER
The Hintertux Glacier has some of the steepest glacier skiing in Austria as well as a resort located at its base station. Skiing on the Hintertux Glacier takes place year round.
KAUNERTAL GLACIER
The Kaunertal Glacier has the wildest setting in Austria, located at the far reaches of the Kaunertal valley. There is no accommodation directly at the Kaunertal Glacier.
KITZSTEINHORN GLACIER
The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is part of the Zell am See / Kaprun ski region and is included in the local ski ticket. Views toward Zell am See are pretty special and the skiing ideal for intermediates.
PITZTAL GLACIER
The Pitztal Glacier offers the highest skiing in Austria at 3440m and is the launch pad for ski tours to Wildspitze, the highest peak in Tirol. The Pitztal Glacier has a resort close to its base station.
DACHSTEIN GLACIER
Located on the opposite side of the valley to Schladming and offering the highest skiing in the region, the Dachstein Glacier has jaw dropping scenery and is the starting point of many regional ski tours.
